Adds to much that wouldn't normally be there without it... if it wasn't it'd just be a typical portrait style piece
But that grunge gives it so much more character
The darkness around the eyes looks wonderful as well, they really drew me in, as well as the lips
Probably one the most life-like vectors I've seen too

the way you've rendered the hair is sweet!
i love how it segues/trickles out of the circle and becomes part of the outer design. that's some
excellant design work.
i would think that the type work you do, you'd have to give it plenty of thought and planning.
but, you'll probably be an aZZhole and tell me you improv all of it, start to finish. heh.
